Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is currently the most advanced smartphone of the Chinese brand, which can be bought officially on the Polish market. I have it on tests and I will share with you my opinion of the first 24 hours of use. You will be surprised how much you can check at this time.
Design without a doubt is extraordinary, but the knowledge that we look at the dummy makes the spell spray. And this huge notch. Just blah!
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has a transparent glass on the rear panel, so the manufacturer was able to put an additional layer there, which has one task – pretend to look at the components . It can not be concealed that it looks unconventional and effective at the same time, although the awareness that it is actually only a dummy, causes a certain insufficiency. Nevertheless, the producer should be plus for originality anyway. Since we are already at the back wall, I will also mention that the islet for cameras and LEDs protrudes a lot above the face of the housing. A nice addition is the red rings around the lenses that give character. From the characteristic red accents you also need to replace the type C USB connector, as well as the switch, which is located on the right side. Right above it, in the classic color, the volume control bar. A single multimedia speaker has been placed on the bottom edge, which can be difficult to reproduce, especially when holding the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro in a horizontal position – then we dampen the sound with the index finger. It is a great shame that Xiaomi did not focus on the solution used by Huawei, and therefore use the speaker for conversations as an additional source for multimedia. However, I am able to get over it – I am not a big fan of listening to music from a smartphone, and the possibilities of this single are quite sufficient. However, I do not understand how it was possible to use such a huge notch , even considering that there is not only a loudspeaker and a Selfie camera, but also other sensors, including infrared, supporting the camera when unlocked by face scanning . Indentation on the screen strongly spoils the positive impression. The chin itself is not too narrow , I would say standard. I have the impression that the same width is in Nokia X6. Both the front and the rear wall were made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The display is adequate for the price, bypassing the indentation of course. When it comes to the most important feature of this smartphone, and therefore the sensor in the screen, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has a display that has a diagonal of 6.21 "and a FullHD + resolution , more specifically 2248 x 1080 pixels. With this characteristic, the panel made in Super AMOLED technology has a density of dots per inch at the level of approximately 402, which is a value suitable for comfortable consumption of content. There is no question of ragged fonts and blurry images. The display is large enough to allow comfortable viewing of content, as well as watching movies and playing. However, it is worth bearing in mind that in this respect the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro performs worse, however, than most flagships from this year . I mean, of course, the display resolution, although FHD + is quite sufficient. Maximum brightness is at the appropriate level – using a smartphone in full sun will not be a problem . I do not have any objections to the minimum brightness – consuming the contents after dark should not cause eye strain. The ambient light sensor works stably. There is, of course, the night mode, although I missed the notification system on the blanked screen . It is a great pity, the more so because we are dealing with an OLED display, and even on IPS screens are already such solutions used. This is a considerable downside, the more that the icon is not displayed on the notification bar, and the only notification system is a small LED diode placed in the indent. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is a smartphone in which the fingerprint reader is placed in the display . I do not hide that I was most interested in this solution in the tested model – it is something new for me. This is undoubtedly a very convenient form of security, because it is enough to place your finger in a specific place to unlock the screen. Unfortunately, it is not yet refined , as it should be – the sensor does not always read the previously defined imprint. In addition, it is clearly slower than the traditional reader and less precise. There is still room for improvement, although I appreciate this solution and I think that over time it will become a standard.
Very standard battery – enough for one day of work, and components do not give reasons to complain.
The battery has a capacity of 3000 mAh . A similar one can be found, among others, in the Galaxy S8, in which a smaller diagonal display is present. However, the battery has less capacity than even the Sony Xperia XZ3 and clearly smaller compared to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, or Samsung Galaxy Note 9. And it clearly can be felt during use – after 20 hours of use, the battery level was only 30%, when the display is on for 2 hours and 30 minutes . The times are therefore very average, bearing in mind the aforementioned models. The set includes a charger with support for fast charging – 18W (9V / 2A). Unfortunately, the smartphone has no induction coil, so wireless charging is not possible. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has the latest SoComm system from Qualcomm on board, and therefore the Snapdragon 845 with the Adreno 630 graphics chip, which is up to 30% more efficient than the Adreno 540 with the Snapdragon 835. There is also support from the 8GB RAM ( LPDDR4X type). The components used are phenomenal – the smartphone does not have the slightest problem with multitasking, switching between open processes is fast. However, I have noticed some deficiency in RAM management – the smartphone keeps applications in memory shorter than the medium-sized Nokia X6, despite the fact that the flagship Xiaomi has 2GB more memory. I have no idea what this is caused, but unfortunately it is. However, I will check the settings and options carefully, and I will share the results of my search in full review.
The equipment did not have a 3.5 mm mini-jack connector, but that's really not a problem. It's a matter of getting used to it.
The equipment did not have a 3.5 mm mini-jack connector, although I was used to it after testing other flaggers. You have two solutions – a Bluetooth headset or a type C USB adapter for a 3.5 mm mini-jack. In the case of the latter, you can connect every cable set you have on hand, and the adapter itself is in the sales set.
Camera with support for artificial intelligence with Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. And therefore outstanding for this producer and also very good in comparison to the competition.
On the rear panel of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro there is a set of two cameras – a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 , characterized by a large single pixel (1.4μm) size, as well as an ƒ / 1.8 aperture. The second one is a 12-megapixel Samsung S5K3M3 with ƒ / 2.4 light. I could not fail to mention the optical approximation to 2x, optical (OIS) and electronic (EIS) image stabilization, ultra-fast focus measurement, automatic HDR, 4K video recording, but only in 30 frames per second. -> Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro – example images in full resolution The first shots made with this kit please the eye and look very good. This is due to the machine that selects the right parameters for the scenery. Autofocus is also flawless, and this is an advantage because the pictures are always sharp. They are also characterized by a large number of details as well as vivid colors.
At the moment Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is a really interesting smartphone, but not for me. I know for sure. However, for tested smartphones I always approach objectively, so you can be calm – hey there will not be Xiaomi.
