Summary after three months (November 2018)

Since the release of the latest version, the software from Google has been gone for several months, which I found to be the right time for a small summary. Android 9 Pie appeared in several updates and flagship smartphones, but it did not cause among the producers crazy – many creators did not even try to get a list of models for their customers. The cookie system was the first to appear in the update for the Chinese superflag player, OnePlus 6 – users received Android 9 Pie with the new OxygenOS 9.0 overlay exactly on September 26. A few days later, the Nokia 7 Plus appeared in the list, which is one of the most successful HMD Global models, and later Xiaomi with Mi Mix 2S and Mi 8 flagship. Other manufacturers, including Huawei , focused on making the beta available for some of their smartphones and they did not release the stable version, but they announced the deadline – on November 10, Android 9 will be sent to the models of the series: Mate 10, P20, Honora Play, flagship 10 and 10 View. Still other creators after the announcement of the letters sank into the ground – examples can be HTC or Motorola.

But let's stop for a moment at LG, because the tactics of the Korean manufacturer are at least strange. The lack of an official list with a planned update is one thing, but the lack of the latest system in the flagship LG V40 ThinQ I consider to be a huge exaggeration. Fortunately in the misfortune may be the fact that the presence of the new LG model is highly questionable in Poland and we do not have to worry about it. But what about the other flagship and cheaper phones? Silence responds to us.

Which models will receive Android 9 in the near future?

Japanese Sony has awakened to life, updating Xperia XZ2 and giving models that have the best chance of being upgraded to the new system:

  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact – from October 26 (there has been a delay),
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium – from November 7,
  • Sony Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus – from March 4, 2019.

Next is Huawei, which will start the upgrade from November 10:

  • Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Porsche Design, Mate RS Porsche Design
  • Huawei P20 and P20 Pro,
  • Honor Play, Honor 10, Honor 10 View

At last, Samsung did not remain indebted and gave information about Android 9 to the network, but unfortunately only in beta for Galaxy S9 +. With him in the queue are Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 9, which should be refreshed in the first quarter of next year. The older Galaxy Note 8 and the S8 series will get a new system only in the second quarter of 2019. For the upgrade by the end of the year we can count on the HMD Global – the system is to receive all the manufacturer's smartphones. Huawei, HTC and Motorola are also sharpening their teeth until the end of 2018, but with less impetus.

Smartphones with update to Android 9 Pie

The latest version of Android debuted in the first days of August 2018, and the first one was received by smartphones from Google: Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL. Next, new software received phones participating in beta-tests, and in recent weeks, many manufacturers have announced lists of improvements for their models.

What's new in Android Pie?

The latest system from Google brings first of all smarter and more energy-efficient Android management and better optimization – the ninth generation is to be a system much faster than its predecessor. We also met a few functions limiting our time spent with a phone / tablet and a new gestures system.

Increased energy efficiency

From now the system will detect itself, which applications we use the least and will limit their operation automatically – all open programs have so far been in full swing, taking a huge amount of energy. Google wants to take care of the small batteries of our smartphones, equipping its new system with intelligent recognition and learning of our habits. Android decides which application to allocate the most resources , and which slightly less. This is a great change that allows you to extend the phone's operation in one charge cycle. Another energy-saving feature is improved automatic brightness matching – again, to be super intelligent and learn our habits.

Limiting the time spent in front of the screen

[/ video] Have you overdoing playing games or using the application? It happens to me quite often, that's why Google wants to help us take care of health by introducing to the new Android the function of limiting time spent in one program. We will set the time after which Android informs us that we exceed the daily limit – the screen will become gray for a change. Android Pie also provides extensive statistics on the time spent in individual applications and the number of notifications received. You will find out how often you reach for the phone and how many "buzz" absorbs your attention.

Improved notifications

The notification bar also has a slight change – from now it will be able to display excerpts of conversations and prompt answers and show more accurate data for a specific application without clicking on it. You can also turn off applications from some programs – it has to work much more intelligently than before.

A new gestures system

Google implemented a new way of navigating Android, and it's a bit similar to that of iOS. The multitasking button has disappeared, which was integrated into the home key and the back button remained in place. How it's working? Touching the main key will return us to the default screen, and dragging your finger up will open the list of applications. Shifting to the right will show us a horizontal list of programs working in the background.

In addition, Android 9 Pie has been revised:

  • suggestions for useful applications,
  • location accuracy (also in buildings),
  • displaying the image from two or more camera lenses simultaneously,
  • selecting the text (enlargement of the marked area was added),
  • screen quality in 18: 9 proportions and better use of notch,
  • displaying movies in HDR,
  • HD sound quality.

All features of the latest system from Google are described on the giant website .
