Great legends often fall quickly. The distribution of all the light that surrounded Andy Rubin was continuing, but it seems that this is the end of this "visionary". In this case compromise is too small a word, also in the case of former Google boss and the whole company management division.

From the beginning, the departure of Andy Rubin from Google was a very, very surprising move – many companies rarely get rid of their legends as quickly and unexpectedly as Google did. Rubin, also known as the iconic "Android father," left the company's headquarters in Mountain View in October 2014, and the then Google head, Larry Page, spared his former employee warm words and wished him luck. In retrospect, it seems to be a real kiss of death.

Depart (un) accidental

This is because the facts that usually result in only one – a complete visual disaster and practically the end of any public activity, as many artists associated with the film industry have learned, it is enough to mention Kevin Spacea or Harvey Weinstein. Yes, you guessed it – Andy Rubin has a very unpleasant incident related to sexual abuse on his conscience. The New York Times journalists got to this information and unfortunately there are many indications that this news will ultimately bring down Rubin. What's more, not just him.

According to the information provided by two anonymous and high-ranking Google employees, the management board of the group received a request from one of Google employees that Andy Rubin forced her to have oral sex in a hotel room during a delegation in 2013 . An investigation carried out by Google showed that the victim's testimony is true and at that moment Google stood against the wall.

Let's get it done quietly and good money

The management of the Mountain View concern had two paths to choose from – either throw Rubin out of work immediately, send him a "wolf ticket" and start the prosecutor's investigation, or deal with the matter secretly. Then, taking into account the fact that various types of sex scandals exploded very rarely, Google opted for the latter solution, at the same time wanting to avoid publicity and storm around the person deserved for the development of the company. The style in which it was done, however, shows that Rubin was not punished for his misdemeanor – he even got … a reward for him. It turned out that Larry Page had made an agreement with Andy Rubin, under which he received compensation of up to 90 million dollars , paid in tranches of 2 million dollars every month for four consecutive years. The last tranche is expected to affect Rubin's account next month. The only caveat for Rubin was the fact that he will not start working for direct competition for Google – Essential, the manufacturer of smartphones with a marginal meaning for the market structure of this industry, can not be regarded as such.

Of course, all these allegations are denied by the spokesperson for the accused, Sam Singer, who claims that Rubin left the company at the time and on his terms. The problem is that the investigation of "NYT" journalists has brought yet another, not too surprising, facts. Well, over the last decade, the company recorded three cases of sexual exploitation of employees, and each of them concerned people relatively high in the company's hierarchy. In the case of one of them, the same was done as with Andy Rubin, that is, the indemnification was paid out and that person was said goodbye without unnecessary publicity, whereas in the last case the transfer was transferred to another, equally prominent position. Any accusations have been covered by a curtain of silence that effectively protects Google's interests for years to come.

A few Rubin's waist diamonds

As reported by Google employees, it is not the first sexual adventure of Andy Rubin in recent years. The "creator of Android" was married to a woman he met at Google, and in 2011 he betrayed a woman who belonged to the team developing the Android system, and a year later he was affair with two other subordinates of his team . Rie Rubin, Andy's ex-wife, in a divorce application admitted that her ex-husband had committed many betrayals with various women. The couple eventually divorced in August, but the taste of sadness remained. You will probably ask why the matter came to light only in 2014, and at the end of it? In delaying the action of the wronged woman, of course, Rubin himself dipped his fingers, convincing that any information on this subject could stop her career. Ultimately, however, the matter came to light, but only at the highest levels of Google.

Bonuses worth a precious name

Unfortunately, in recent years Andy Rubin felt not only completely unpunished, but also did not have to worry about his financial future – he was one of the most rewarded and rewarded employees of the giant . If you do not know what the commissions from your purchases in the Play Store were and where the profits from the sale of Google Pixel smartphones went, I am in a hurry to explain. In 2011, Rubin was sworn in as the senior vice-president of the group – he received a remuneration of 20 million dollars a year. In addition, in 2012, he received a $ 14 million loan at just 1 percent to purchase a luxury property on the coast of Japan. In 2013, after the arrival of current Google boss, Sundara Pichai, who took charge of the combined divisions of Android and Google Chrome, Rubin received a one-time bonus from the company's listed company value of $ 40 million, plus an additional two tranches for a total of 72 million "green" "from the same title, payable over two years. If that were not enough, the fascination of the Vice President of Google was robotics – to this end, in just six months, he acquired Google ownership of eight companies specializing in this subject for a total of 90 million dollars: of course the vast majority of them turned out to be a solid misfired and did little to contribute to the development of this branch of Google. The perfect summary of how beautiful Google crushed Rubin's comb was the $ 150 million bonus granted by the company management again as a percentage of the company's stock market value . As Larry Page said then, Rubin has never been sufficiently rewarded for contributing to the company's development, and this sum seems to reflect his merits. It is strange that neither the main interested nor the members of the supervisory board who have patched this tranche refuse any comment.

It is also shocking that Google, after parting with Ruby, financially supported his venture capital fund called Playground Ventures, and agreed to postpone repayment of the loan taken for the purchase of the Japanese estate. This was done even though Rubin, as he wrote in one of his emails to his mistress, stated that " having a woman is like keeping a property that he can rent at any time to other people ." Unpleasant, simply unpalatable.

Google reacts, but it is not enough

Google's response to the accusation was of course immediate – Sundar Pichai and his deputy, Eileen Noughton, assured everyone that sexual abuse was investigated and verified by them, and those guilty of the alleged acts thrown into the pavement. According to statistics run by Google over the last two years, as many as 48 people said goodbye to sexual work, and none of them received any kind of severance pay, certainly not as good as Rubin.

We can be sure, however, that this matter will certainly not end in a simple statement. In fact, Andy Rubin is just an addition to the whole – this legendary "Android father" has been completely compromised, and his reputation has simply reached the pavement. An unsuccessful experiment with Essential is just a prelude to the whole, because it turns out that Rubin managed to provide himself a really comfortable existence, being able to afford even such frills as creating his own smartphone company , because such entertainment for cheap certainly does not belong. Anyway, this guy definitely has enough to live for, and his retirement will certainly not belong to the saddest and the poorest. The only thing that will probably remain now is defense in court, but probably with such funds he will be able to bypass the penitentiary facility.

Rubin no longer hassles – now Google stands against the wall

The situation of Google is completely different – I see the basics here for the "Harvey Weinstein affair", of course, to the technological world. It is embarrassing that a company that emphasizes a variety of different values at every turn hid absolutely scandalous things and put on pathology from the world. These were not isolated cases – it is clear that thousands of employees will always find devils and sexual frustrations, but hiding such accusations and covering them with millions of bonuses sounds so incredible that it is hard to believe. The worst thing for Google is that not only the former but also current employees and Google's administrators are involved in this scandal. Larry Page is no longer the president of Google, but he has become the owner of the company Alphabet, so Google's mother company, so we are dealing with even greater caliber. It is also hard to believe that Sundar Pichai, the current CEO of Mountain View, who was certainly well informed about the financial connections of the company with Andy Rubin, did not know about the whole affair, giving full approval. And so we have lived to a time when great legends end their career in a truly catastrophic way, in addition to revealing their true nature. And Google has nothing to worry about and it will not surprise me at all when the Rubin case becomes just the beginning of a real avalanche of history that will compromise the already tainted reputation of one of the largest technology companies in history.
