TP-LINK Neffos C9A is an inexpensive smartphone in which a display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, basic components and Google Android 8.1 Oreo system has been put on.
TP-LINK Neffos C9A is a proposal for people looking for a cheap, yet modern smartphone. It has the desired screen proportions, the function of unlocking by means of a face scan, or a camera with night mode. To this you must also mention the LED on the front and Selfie camera with HDR. As you can see, this smartphone for 500 zlotys has several strong features. Is it enough to recommend buying it?
Plastic first of all
TP-LINK Neffos C9A is a smartphone belonging to the segment of inexpensive devices, which is why the manufacturer decided to use only plastic for the production – plastic on the back panel is matte, and the frame imitates aluminum. What is surprising is that TP-LINK did not decide on a removable back flap, in order to allow the consumer to get into the battery – it would certainly be a big advantage. On the front we have glass (I have not found detailed information about the coating used ), which have been bent on the long sides to improve the visual experience . The front panel almost does not stand out anything special, if you take into account the elements placed there – we will find there a display, a camera with LED diode, a sensor of existing light, a speaker for talks and a notification diode. The latter is modest in size and placed in the right corner. Under the screen is the series logo. The fingerprint reader can be found on the back wall – it has been clearly recessed into the casing and is surrounded by a silver frame. Its location is correct, so that the index finger puts itself on it. It's time for a quick look at the location of the ports and buttons on the housing. The lower edge was occupied by the microUSB 2.0 port as well as a microphone. On the top there is a 3.5mm mini-jack connector. The tray for the traditional SIM card slot (nanoSIM + nanoSIM + microSD) hit the left side. On the right there is a switch and a volume control bar. What is important, TP-LINK Neffos C9A uses one loudspeaker , so the media located above the display is responsible for multimedia playback. The secondary microphone went to the back wall and was placed between the main camera lens (minimally protrudes above the face) and the LED illuminating the LED. In general, TP-LINK Neffos C9A is a smartphone I expected at a price of around PLN 500. It did not disappoint me neither in terms of performance nor comfort of use.
Custom battery life
The enclosure has a 3020 mAh battery , which in my opinion is completely sufficient for this device and ensures good working time on one charge cycle. TP-LINK Neffos C9A offers 1.5 days of operation without having to reach for the charger. The working time is what I expected, although it is worth adding that you can easily get better results with less intensive use of the phone. If, however, you come to the conclusion that TP-LINK Neffos C9A is to serve you as a gaming console, unfortunately, but it will not last until the evening. [wptab style = "4" title = "Normal use"] [slug test = "battery" order = "desc" selected = "22716" virtual = "pcmark-work-2" type = "single" product_id = "22716, 22568,22454,22216,22232,22462,22350 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" Games "] [test slug =" battery "order =" desc "selected =" 22716 "virtual =" bateria-manhattan-3 "type =" single "product_id =" 22716, 22568,22216,22462,22350 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" Charging time "] [slug test =" battery " virtual = "loading-ac" order = "asc" selected = "22716" type = "single" product_id = "22716, 22568,22454, 22216,22232,22462,22350"] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] Full charge cycle the standard charger included in the sales kit lasts over two and a half hours . It's a long time, but everything is to blame on the charger – it's only 1A. A quarter of an hour translates into 11%, and after thirty minutes, this value increases to 21%. There is no energy saving mode , thanks to which we can manage processes in the background, and disable synchronization, and thus extend the working time when we are away from the socket. In the settings there are two modes of operation – intelligent energy saving and maximizing energy saving. Activating the last profile will switch the standard interface to simplified (access to basic functions only).
Screen adequate for the price
Neffos C9A is a smartphone equipped with a 18: 9 aspect ratio displaying HD + resolution (1440 x 720 pixels) and a 5.45 "diagonal . It was made in IPS technology. So we have a standard for smartphones from a low segment. The display has sharp corners, and is not surrounded by such narrow frames , as shown by the press graphics and the one on the packaging. Longer frames appear and are visible, although they have been adjusted accordingly, thanks to which we feel that we are holding a telephone with new proportions in our hands. [wptab style = "4" title = "AdobeRGB"] [test slug = "test-colors" order = "desc" selected = "22716" virtual = "color-adobergb" type = "single" product_id = "22716, 22568 , 22454,22462 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" sRGB "] [test slug =" test-colors "order =" desc "selected =" 22716 "virtual =" kolor-srgb "type = "single" product_id = "22716, 22568,22454,222462"] [/ wptab] [wptab style = "4" title = "Maximum brightness"] [test slug = "screen-battery" virtual = "TEST_JASE_PASS" order = "desc" selected = "22716" type = "single" product_id = "22716, 22568,22454, 22216,22232,22462,22350"] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] It is extremely enjoyable to hide the screen buttons used to navigate the menu and using gestures on the screen. This procedure makes the use of a smartphone slower, however, as part of the compensation we get a larger work area. In addition, TP-LINK allows you to change the layout of the buttons. The maximum brightness is at a decent level – it's almost 400 cd / m2 , so that during sunny days there will be no bigger problem with the readability of the screen. I do not have any reservations to the minimum illumination which, according to our calibrator, is 6 cd / m2. This is a value that does not adversely affect the use of the smartphone TP-LINK Neffos C9A in a limited light, the more that the manufacturer even took care of the blue light filter with a schedule and the possibility of manual adjustment of intensity. The ambient light sensor is working properly. I also do not have any special complaints in the case of color reproduction, because the coverage of sRGB is only 84.1%. It is true that in practice it means a bit washed colors, as well as black falling in the shade of gray, but in general, the display used in this model can easily be called quite nice . Not sensational, but accepted in this price segment.
The camera gives advice
The main camera – characteristics, quality of photos and videos
According to TP-LINK advertising, in the low-budget model Neffos C9A has come to the camera, which makes perfect photos every time. Is the producer gently bent the truth to attract more interest in his product? Before answering this question, a short characteristic – the phone is equipped with a 13MP camera with a lens aperture of F / 2.2 and fast autofocus . Added to this is a single LED lighting diode. It must be admitted that the description of the camera on paper does not look bad at all. -> See full-resolution sample images Photographs taken in favorable conditions look decent . The detail is good, and the work of auto focus (autofocus) is usually correct. The tonal range is somewhat disappointing, which could be a bit wider. Fortunately, there is HDR mode, which enlivens photographs and makes up for some shortcomings. There is no shortage of better photographic smartphones on the market, but I think TP-LINK Neffos C9A in its class is good – if we have the right conditions for photography. To further improve the quality, it is best to activate the HDR mode. It must be remembered, however, that the camera needs a bit more time to take and save photographs. What happens after dark should hardly surprise anyone. The camera's capabilities are reduced to a minimum – there is a lot of noise, the number of recorded details decreases. When photographing objects from close range, the illuminating diode helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue7lgL2D75U Video materials do not differ in quality from photography , and therefore have a good level of detail with favorable lighting. The maximum resolution that we get when recording TP-LINK Neffos C9A is Full HD (1080p) at 30 frames per second. In night-time conditions the camera does not work, so it's better to let go of filming. Dedicated camera application is easy to use and includes several additional modes, including night mode, which activates automatically when needed. There is of course the previously mentioned HDR, although it is not automatic. The user also receives: a panorama, eating mode, monochrome photos, beautifying the face, as well as manual mode . The latter offers setting of photosensitivity, exposure time, or exposure and temperature. Bearing in mind the price range is quite a lot.
Selfie was dedicated to the Softlight camera with the beautifying function, which is characterized by 5MP resolution , angle of 84 °, also (as the manufacturer claims) the function of beautification using SI . Added to this is HDR and LED. The photos are correct and nothing more than that – they do not impress anything special, although they can be easily uploaded onto social networks.
Rather, basic performance
TP-LINK Neffos C9A is a basic smartphone, which can be proved by the SoC chip used, as well as the amount of RAM and data for the user. Computing power is provided by MediaTek MT6739WW (4x ARM Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.5GHz) with the PowerVR Rouge GE8100 @ 570MHz graphics chip and 2GB of RAM . On the other hand, 16 GB of internal memory is reserved for user data, of which about 9 GB is available. Fortunately, there is a traditional microSD slot that supports cards with a capacity of up to 128GB. [wptab style = "4" title = "PC Mark"] [test slug = "pcmark-android" order = "desc" selected = "22716" virtual = "pcmark-android-work" type = "single" product_id = " 22716, 22568,22454, 22216,22232,22462,22350 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" Manhattan (OnScreen) "] [test slug =" gfxbench-fps "order =" desc "selected = "22716" type = "single" virtual = "manhattan-3-onscreen" product_id = "22716, 22568,22454, 22216,22232,22462,22350"] [/ wptab] [wptab style = "4" title = " GeekBench Single "] [test slug =" geekbench-4 "order =" desc "selected =" 22716 "virtual =" geekbench-4-Single-Core "type =" single "product_id =" 22716, 22568,22454, 22216, 22232,22462,22350 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" GeekBench Multi "] [test slug =" geekbench-4 "order =" desc "selected =" 22716 "virtual =" geekbench-4 -Multi-Core "type =" single "product_id =" 22716, 22568,22454, 22216,22232,22462,22350 "] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] This set makes the smartphone work unevenly – there were sometimes cuts during testing. And there really is no rule – a pendant can appear even when scrolling desktops. The loading time of the application could be a bit shorter, and the RAM management itself more refined. Opening several applications and switching between them without a reload happens to be a miracle. However, if you plan to use your smartphone for standard tasks and by the way, beat the processes, the efficiency will not be a big problem. There is no madness in terms of graphical performance. Dedicated chip (IMG8XE1PPC @ 570MHz) can not cope with graphically advanced positions, which is also affected by low RAM. Simple games do not cause problems. We are going to the system. TP-LINK Neffos C9A works under the control of NFUI 8.0, which is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo system with the security level from May this year. The manufacturer has added third-party applications to the software, and a few of them. The appearance of the icons, the notification bar as well as the settings tab have been changed. However, these are not radical changes, which is why the software is transparent and easy to use. TP-LINK has not decided on the original smartphone management application, which is why the Clean Master was pre-installed, which allows you to clean up memory from unnecessary files, and to speed up operations by killing processes in the background.
Standard communication facilities
I am very pleased that TP-LINK Neffos C9A is not another smartphone in which a hybrid SIM card slot has been placed. TP-LINK Neffos C9A is a device in which the card tray has three holes – two for a nano-standard SIM card, and the third one is dedicated for microSD cards with a capacity of up to 128GB. The smartphone has standard communication modules: WiFi 802.11 b / g / n module with WiFi Display and WiFi Direct, as well as LTE category 4 modem, enabling data download at speeds up to 150 Mbps, as well as sending up to 50 Mbps. It is worth noting here that you can use 4G data transmission on two SIM slots . The equipment also includes Bluetooth 4.1, which works without any problems with various accessories. The phone also has GPS (with A-GPS and GLONASS support), which works well – so much that it does not require support from the cellular network. Searching for a signal does not last long. The microUSB 2.0 port offers OTG support – supports mass storage devices such as pendrives and pointing devices. The multimedia speaker is nice – especially considering the price of TP-LINK Neffos C9A. The sound quality is not good, but the maximum volume is at the right level – you will hear the incoming call without any problem, and if it does not happen, it will notify you about the event. The fingerprint reader on the phone works smoothly , although it is not particularly fast. We can define up to five fingerprints. It was placed in a traditional, very good place, and therefore on the back wall. The index finger places itself on it, making it unusable to unlock the phone with its use. The smartphone also has the function of unlocking by means of a face scan. There is still room for improvement – the device very often does not recognize the user and it is necessary to unlock manually.
Summary and evaluation: is it worth buying TP-LINK Neffos C9A?
When I found out that I would be testing TP-LINK Neffos C9A, I was skeptical about this model. I thought, what can be nice on a low-budget smartphone? My nonchalant approach quickly changed as soon as I began to associate with this device – I got to know its strengths and weaknesses. And I know one thing: when buying a cheap smartphone you have to compromise .TP-LINK Neffos C9A will be remembered well, because the producer, despite the limited budget, managed to implement a sensible camera that works well during the day . The advantages of quiet can also include the ergonomics of use. You can not fail to mention two SIM card slots and a separate microSD card reader – this is an increasingly less frequent combination. Now a few words about what I did not like. At the first fire goes a long charging time, which can lead to frustration, especially when we need to recharge the phone quickly during the day. It is also a pity that TP-LINK did not develop the software, which makes the smartphone work unevenly – I hope that the manufacturer will soon repair it by providing new software (and almost certainly will provide, given that Neffos updates even the cheapest phones). Finally, there are issues of screen brightness (the maximum value of backlight should be higher), shooting after dark (this is unfortunately a disadvantage of all devices in this segment) and the lack of oleophobic coating, making the screen dirty quickly.
