European Huawei branches say that neither Huawei P9 nor Honor 8 will get updates to Android Oreo. Apparently, these models do not cope best with the latest version of the system from Google. I wonder why, if the middle-class visitor is clearly weaker than Oreo?
Huawei P9 and Honor 8 without Oreo?
System upgrades have never been particularly strong on the Huawei smartphone and Honor brand that belongs to this manufacturer. While security fixes are made available quite often and regularly, so the jump of one Android version is the maximum, even for flagships. You do not have to look for examples far – the popular Huawei P8 and Honor 7 models have just finished their update. For several weeks, there have been voices saying that their successors, Huawei P9 and Honor 8, are waiting for both of them. upgrade to Oreo , at least not in Europe. This is quite interesting, because in China tests are still under way. It may be that the branches on the Old Continent (including Poland) do not know what they are talking about. Another option is that the manufacturer depends on clients from his home country, and the rest will survive without Oreo. In any case, for the moment we must accept that neither Huawei P9 nor Honor 8 will get any major updates and end up on Nougat. The manufacturer's representatives justify this fact in the fact that these smartphones do not cope too much with the new system , which is why they work so badly that it is better to cancel the update than to spend it. Apparently the final vote in this matter is taken by Google itself. This is quite an interesting position, especially when we consider that Huawei is planning to update a smartphone much weaker than its two-year flagships.
Huawei P9 Lite 2017 – Oreo in plans
One of our readers decided to ask the Huawei support branch if the P9 Lite mini will get some bigger update. It turns out that so far there are only plans to release further security patches. During the conversation, it was confirmed that Huawei is planning to release Oreo for Huawei P9 Lite 2017 , if everything goes as planned. The whole conversation was immortalized on screen shots (click on the image to enlarge it): In this situation I am curious about the occasion of which the Huawei P9 and Honor 8 do not advise with Oreo, since their CPUs are much stronger than the one that Huawei P9 Lite 2017 got . The difference between them is colossal, especially when we talk about processor performance. I would understand this if competitors also had problems updating their two-year phones, but many of them provide them with two big updates – sometimes much later than they would have been, but they still provide. Perhaps it is the Kirin systems that are guilty , or rather the manufacturer, who does not want to prepare the appropriate drivers. I do not see any other explanation, and you?
Bonus: Android P is Pistachio?
An employee of Huawei, who was talking to our Reader, provided interesting information – allegedly Android P is called Pistachio . This name has already appeared and it was a few months ago, though in the form of Pistachio Ice Cream. Perhaps this is true, but for me it is only the code name under which Android P is hiding for the time of testing. The formal name will probably be different – above all shorter. Thanks Igor 🙂
