Xiaomi fans say that the Android number is not important, because the MIUI version counts. There is something in it, however, Xiaomi does not forget about the basics, that's why Android 8.0 Oreo just released two-year flagship – Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix.
MIUI more important than Android?
MIUI is an overlay for the Android operating system, which changes its character very much. The Xiaomi software introduces additional features and plenty of personalization options. For this reason, it is assumed that the MIUI version is more important than the Android version – or at least that's what Xiaomi fans say. I use Xiaomi Mi 6 myself and I have to admit that there is a lot of reason in this position. Admittedly, there are situations when MIUI needs a specific version of Android to offer the given function – this was even the case with screen sharing, supported natively by Nougat. However, this is only individual situations and the new MIUI actually brings in more than the latest version of the system from Google . If someone does not convince you, and the obstacle to buy Xiaomi is the fear of becoming on some older version of Android, then I have good news for these people. Often appearing on the network information that the Chinese provide their phones only one large update of the green robot is a common phenomenon, but certainly not the rule. The Xiaomi model has a chance of two jumps in the numbering of Android, and the two-year flagship brands are the best proof of that.
Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi Note 2 and Mi Mix with Android Oreo!
For a long time Xiaomi tested Oreo for three top phones from 2016, i.e. Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix . A few days ago they came to an end and the manufacturer started the process of officially updating these devices to Android 8.0 Oreo, under MIUI 184.108.40.206 Global. The software is made available via the OTA channel, at the beginning only in selected regions, to which more will join later. From what I noticed, Xiaomi Mi 5 gets an update, among others in Italy, so you can always switch the region in settings just for this country. Below I attach packages to download (click to download):
Prejudice – downloading and installing the system is only at your own risk . Who does not know it, let it wait better for the OTA update.
The end of Android, but not the end MIUI
Oreo is almost certainly the last version of Android they receive Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mi Mix. This does not mean, however, that these devices will be left without support, as they will receive subsequent versions of MIUI, including, of course, MIUI 10, as well as security patches. Two large Android updates and several MIUI updates make Xiaomi one of the leaders when it comes to support for smartphones , especially those from the top shelf. Sure, two jumps in the numbering of Android often also gives the competition, but several years of sharing a new overlay is a rare phenomenon. Of course, the speed of the update could be better, and the software could have fewer bugs, but Xiaomi still stands out from other manufacturers, such as Huawei / Honor: https://www.gsmmaniak.pl/ 864048 / huawei-p9-lite-2017-oreo / Fortunately, many other manufacturers have also decided to provide support for their smartphones, promising two years of system upgrade and three years of sharing security patches. When we add Project Treble to it, maybe we will finally have the limitation of Android fragmentation . Source: XDA , MIUI
