The black theme will soon be on the boards of Google Pixel smartphones. This is good news for owners of these smartphones and maybe also owners of other Android smartphones.
Black theme in the Google Pixel launcher coming soon
Pixele is a Google smartphone that comes with a clean version of Android. For some it is a big plus, while for others it is a big minus. I personally think this is a positive feature. What I did not like about the smartphones from the Mountain View giant is the fact that despite the presence of the AMOLED display, the company was not tempted to introduce a dark interface theme . It looks like Google has just changed his mind. According to the latest reports, Google actually plans to introduce a dark interface that will work regardless of the wallpaper setting. Soon, Pixel smartphone users will be able to choose whether they want a bright, dark or automatic theme. This is good news because the darker colors cause the display to consume much less energy. Not so long ago I did a test on my Galaxy Note 8, which consisted in the fact that for several cycles of charging and discharging the device I used once a light and once dark theme. The results showed each time that the AMOLED displays definitely prefer darker colors . The difference was not very significant, but it was noticeable. The black theme allowed me to achieve about one hour more use of the phone than when I used bright wallpaper and a bright theme. Sam, on my own example, I found out that for AMOLED this use of dark colors will only be a plus. This is not surprising, since black does not shine, unlike white.
When will it happen?
For now, we do not know when Google will implement black theme support on Pixel smartphones. We do know, however, that at the right time, users' smartphones themselves will inform about the appropriate update, which will introduce a new function. The availability of the dark theme is supposedly the result of requests from users who finally forced the giant to bring this feature to the Android system permanently. The company plans to add a special switch in Quick Settings , which will have the task of quickly switching between a dark and a bright motif. The new function will be available only at the next version of the system. If I understand correctly, then probably Android P will introduce it. Native support for this solution may allow its introduction also in other Android smartphones, unless the device manufacturer has added the option itself in its overlay. It's a good news.
