The premiere of BlackBerry KEY2 is behind us. Here's the best smartphone with Android and a physical keyboard. It has a Snapdragon 660, 6 GB RAM and a good camera. Does the price encourage you to buy?
All fans of physical keyboards in smartphones have finally got the premiere of a new BlackBerry device. KEY2 is the successor of the very warm BlackBerry KEYone, which you could read recently in GsmManiaKa. Does the successor fulfill the hopes broken in him?
Productivity above all
It is no surprise to anyone that the key element highlighted at the very beginning of the BlackBerry KEY2 was the keyboard . It is still a global phenomenon, because no other major producer has the courage (or completely misses the point) to invest millions more in the development of a device that is so niche. Compared to its predecessor, the physical keyboard has a facelift, which according to BlackBerry is to be even more ergonomic – but I will confirm it when I can spend a bit more time with it. I do not hide that I feel like it. Each key has a 20 percent larger area – writing should be even more enjoyable.BlackBerry KEY2 is not a smartphone that impresses with the ratio of the size of the screen to the front of the case – of course this is dictated by the presence of a physical keyboard, though not only. The producer did not even try to radically limit the beams that surround the screen. The display still has 4.5 full diagonal and 3: 2 aspect ratio. The resolution of 1620 to 1080 also does not knock (of course against the background of other flagships, because here is more than enough), but rather none of the buyers is going to use it mainly to watch movies.
The specification leaves no illusions. This is a harvester for work
If you expected BlackBerry to bet on the most powerful components available on the market, then I must disappoint you. Someone in the design department, however, hard on the ground and knows that Snapdragon 845 would be an overgrown form above the content. It is not a smartphone to play at the end, the resolution is relatively low, and the use of a weaker unit allowed a gentle circumvention with the battery. So we have an efficient but certainly not the top Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip . I think it's a good decision – now it's a good compromise between hardware performance and energy management. It is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM memory (the predecessor had 3 or 4, depending on the variant). Here, too, there is nothing to cling to, after all, some flagships from 2018 have less resources. The smartphone works on Android version 8.1 Oreo. Fortunately, the battery has not decreased. 3500 mAh should be enough for a full working day at full speed , and on quieter days after the charger we will reach probably every third. However, if the energy would suddenly fail, the manufacturer took care of the support for fast charging Quick Charge 3.0.
The camera is a big progress, but the leader will be short
BlackBerry KEY2 is not the best photosmophone on the market, but progress in relation to its predecessor is visible to the naked eye. A second lens hit the back of the device, which will be appreciated by photography enthusiasts. The main unit is a 12 megapixel sensor with f / 1.8 lightAn additional f / 2.6 lens with a f / 2.6 light effect will give a fashionable bokeh effect and hide a 12 megapixel sensor. It also acts as a telephoto lens. On paper it looks quite impressive and I hope that during the year there has been progress in software quality, which was the weakest point of the predecessor. At this price, however, you will certainly find better picture phones.
Price and availability of BlackBerry KEY2
Looking at the specification itself, one can get the impression that the BlackBerry KEY2 should cost a maximum of 1800 PLN . Before I tell you how much the producer wants for his new product, let me make a comment. This is a unique product that you can not look at only as a simple sum of components. A physical keyboard and a great battery make it the best choice for those who use their smartphone almost exclusively for work.BlackBerry KEY2 officially costs 649 euro, which in Poland will probably translate into 2699-2999 PLN , with an emphasis on this higher amount. It's a lot of money, but in my opinion this model is worth it. I can not wait to get in my hands.
