We have a review of the Nokia 7 Plus phone – a mid-range device that tempts with a powerful processor, 18: 9 narrow-film screen, dual camera and pure Android One. Our test Nokia 7 Plus will bring closer all the advantages and disadvantages of this device. Thanks to this you will know if it is worth to buy Nokia 7 Plus.
Nokia 7 Plus is offered in for PLN 1699 . As for a super-somnifer it is quite reasonable price – the competition is able to sell weaker smartphones on paper for similar and sometimes even bigger money. Meanwhile, Nokia 7 Plus seems to offer a lot of interesting solutions and does not cost money at the same time. I am not surprised, therefore, that a large group of mania awaited our review of the Nokia 7 Plus . Here she is – I invite you to read 🙂 Thank you for the rental of a smartphone for testing to the x-kom store .
Housing – metal of the highest class
The larger part of the Nokia 7 Plus housing was made of metal, specifically the 6000 series aluminum block . The rear panel gives the impression of being painted, is a bit softer than the frame and collects streaks, but generally gives the impression of being durable and strong. After more than two weeks of testing, there are no scratches on the housing. I really like the stylistic accent in the form of a copper-colored metal frame. Those people who saw the Nokia 7 Plus in my hands assessed this idea unequivocally. An additional, narrow frame with the same color surrounds the screen, a camera on the back panel (clearly protruding) and a fingerprint reader. The manufacturer's logo on the back casing is also copper.Since we are at the backs , it's a pity not to mention that despite the metal case of the Nokia 7 Plus there are no plastic elements separating the casing into three parts. The antenna strips have been brilliantly masked . Nokia 7 Plus has been equipped with a large screen, because it has a diagonal of up to 6 inches, but thanks to the reduction of frames around it, the whole housing has dimensions similar to smartphones with a display of ~ 5.7 inches. Space management is good, but not overwhelming – the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S with the same screen is even noticeably lower. The front is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 . I am used to large smartphones, so I found it convenient to use the Nokia 7 Plus . This is due to the cut edges of the rear panel and the small width of the device itself. For the full happiness, there was no possibility of downloading the notification bar by the gesture of sliding your finger down so you do not have to reach for it with your thumb (which is very difficult to do) or use the other hand (which is not always possible). The arrangement of individual elements is not particularly surprising. The right side hides the power button and the volume control bar. They are located at a good height, and are clearly marked and have a pleasant, springy stroke. The second edge is only the SIM card tray and the memory card, at the top there is only a 3.5 mm jack connector, and on the bottom there is a USB type C port and a multimedia speaker. I really liked the Nokia 7 Plus – it looks elegant and relatively original , but it was also made of very good quality materials.
Large screen 18: 9
Nokia could not remain indifferent to market trends and began to introduce screens with new proportions to its smartphones. Nokia 7 Plus received a 6-inch panel made in LCD technology , displaying content in Full HD + (2160×1080). I have no objections to the sharpness of the displayed image – all fonts or arches are perfectly smooth. The content is presented in the 18: 9 format . In the settings I have not found the option of scaling them, so the adaptation of the application to the screen depends on their programmers. Most of them are coping with it, but not all of them (eg WWE Mayhem ). By the way, I will add that the screen corners are rounded. [wptab style = "4" title = "Maximum brightness"] [test slug = "screen-battery" virtual = "TEST_JASE_PASS" order = "desc" selected = "22612" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218, 21418,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" Minimum brightness "] [test slug =" screen-battery "virtual = "TEST_JASNOSC_AKU_MIN" order = "asc" selected = "22612" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218,21418,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,25154,24,22612,22592"] [/ wptab] [wptab style = "4" title = "sRGB"] [test slug = "test-colors" order = "desc" selected = "22612" virtual = "kolor-srgb" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22592 , 22564,22588,22582,22410,2254,22612 "] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] The Nokia 7 Plus screen deserves praise for above-average contrast with a value slightly exceeding 1500: 1, which gives us very good reproduction of black and improves visibility in a bright environment. Nothing, just enjoy, because the maximum brightness alone is 491 cd / m2, which is sufficient, but also quite average in this class. Fortunately , I did not have much trouble reading the content in full sun . I will add that the minimal backlight is 4 cd / m2, so after dark the screen does not hurt in the eyes. The color reproduction is decent, as the coverage of the sRGB color palette reaches 97%, but not the standard one, as the producer decided to gently curl one of the colors (eg greens), gently damping the others. The white balance is problematic because it is clearly directed towards the cold shade (almost 8,000 K). It is true that we can improve this parameter in the settings, using the function limiting the emission of blue light, but it is a pity that on board there were no color modes or tools used to regulate the intensity of the most important colors. In this section, it's worth to say two words about the function "Screen compatible with the environment", or energy-saving notifications on the lock screen . To see them, all you have to do is pick up the phone. New notifications can run the preview automatically. This is an interesting and useful feature that needs to replace the notification diode that Nokia 7 Plus does not offer.
Efficiency? For a medium above average
In many medium-range smartphones, we can find Snapdragon 600 family systems. The most common are units with code names 625, 626 or 630. Meanwhile, Nokia 7 Plus got a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 unit. It is composed of an octa-core processor, based on Kryo 260 cores (modified Cortex-A7x), clocked at a maximum clock of 2.2 GHz. Added to this is the Adreno 512 graphic layout, 14nm process technology and, in the case of Nokia 7 Plus, also 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 memory for files. Let's see how this whole set works in benchmarking tests. At first glance at the general tests: [wptab style = "4" title = "PC Mark"] [test slug = "pcmark-android" order = "desc" selected = "22612" virtual = "pcmark-android-work" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218,21418,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592,22444"] [/ wptab] [wptab style = "4" title = "AnTuTu 7 "] [test slug =" android-antutu-7 "order =" desc "selected =" 22612 "virtual =" antutu-total-7 "type =" single "product_id =" 22614,22604,22590,22588,22582, 22548,22318,22612,22622,22592,22570,22562 "] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] Now let's look at the processor performance: [wptab style =" 4 "title =" GeekBench Single "] [test slug =" geekbench-4 "order =" desc "selected =" 22612 "virtual =" geekbench-4-Single-Core "type =" single "product_id =" 21640,21630,22254,21752,21640,22154,22192,2244,14,22394,21416, 22444,22612,22318 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" GeekBench Multi "] [test slug =" geekbench-4 "order =" desc "selected =" 22612 "virtual =" geekbench-4 -Multi-Core "type =" single "product_id =" 21640,21630,22254,21752,21640,22154,22192,22414, 22394,21416,22444,22612,22318 "] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] As you can see, in terms of performance Nokia 7 Plus with Snapdragon 660 can make a balanced fight against top smartphones from 2016. He gently loses with them, but by the way he makes a mess of all phones with processors based only on Cortex-A53 cores (Kirin 65x or Snapdragon 62x and 630). Probably some of you will say that these are just numbers, but the difference in computing power can be seen with the naked eye. Nokia 7 Plus is noticeably faster than competitors like Motorola Moto G6 Plus with Snapdragon 630 (tested by me in parallel). It would be even better if Nokia reached for the UFS dice instead of eMMC 5.1, but it seems that Snapdragon 660 does not support them (you can find conflicting data on the web). In any case, Nokia 7 Plus loads the applications without undue delay and quickly recalls them from the main memory. People interested in the Nokia 7 Plus test probably remember that a few days ago I wrote about an important update for this smartphone. I was very happy because it greatly improved the smoothness and speed of the device. Initially, the Nokia 7 Plus had a big optimization problem, just like Nokia 8. I tested a few months ago. The new version of the system made it much better and the animation's keypad became almost completely forgotten. And what about graphical efficiency? Here are the test results: [wptab style = "4" title = "3DMark"] [test slug = "3dmark" order = "desc" selected = "22612" virtual = "3dmark-slingshot-total" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592"] [/ wptab] [wptab style = "4" title = "T-Rex"] [test slug = "gfxbench" fps "order =" desc "selected =" 22612 "type =" single "virtual =" t-rex-3-onscreen "product_id =" 22412,22218,21418,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564 , 22612,22592,22444 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" Manhattan "] [test slug =" gfxbench-fps "order =" desc "selected =" 22612 "type =" single "virtual = "manhattan-3-onscreen" product_id = "22412,22218,21418,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592,22444"] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] In this case it is not as good as with CPU power, though there is no reason for shame either. Adreno 512 is noticeably weaker than Adreno 530 with Snapdragon 821 (LG G6) or Mali-T880MP12 (Samsung Galaxy S7), but clearly prevails over all graphics systems from the Adreno 50x family . This is evident not only in benchmarks, but also in games – such productions as Dead Trigger 2 and Real Racing not only look nicer , but also less often do they get any cuts. To sum up – in terms of performance, speed and smoothness of operation, the Nokia 7 Plus is far from flagships, but relatively little, clearly dominating the average medium. Snapdragon 660 should satisfy the needs of virtually any user, so there is no offense to the lack of a strictly top-down system.
Nokia 7 Plus works under the control of pure Android version 8.1 Oreo , and those interested can now even check on this Android model P. The phone belongs to the Android One program , which means that it should receive regular security updates and is guaranteed system updates for two years . It works – Nokia 7 Plus has the latest May fixes on board. Among systemic additions We will not find anything that strikes the producer. In fact, it's worth just mentioning an extensive camera application, a technical support program or a solid wallpaper package available online. The rest is basically a clean Android, with all its disadvantages and advantages. If you ask, what are the first ones, in fact I've already mentioned a few – no color modes loaded or the ability to adjust the proportions of apps to the screen. These elements may be considered trivial, but people used to extensive overlays do not immediately feel at home here. Proponents of the least amount of modifications will be enraptured for it.
The camera. Is it equal to competition?
The first Nokia smartphone with a dual camera that I had the opportunity to test was Nokia 8. It received a solution known from Huawei phones, i.e. an additional lens for monochrome photography. Meanwhile, Nokia 7 Plus has received a telephoto lens for portrait photos . A bit strange situation, but the producer apparently recognized that it is a better, more interesting and more desirable solution. The main unit of the Nokia 7 Plus is based on a 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 sensor with f / 1.75 light and 1.4 μm pixel. The specification of the camera is very good, but unfortunately there is no optical image stabilization . Meanwhile, the additional camera has 13 MP, f / 2.6 light and allows you to zoom in twice without losing quality. Between both "eyes" you will find the ZEISS logo. Apparently, this company actively helps Nokia in the development of smartphones, but it is not known how much truth. The application for taking pictures has been designed in a very typical way. On the left side, in the horizontal view, icons are displayed allowing selection of the camera (including the front and back simultaneously), switching on the flash, HDR mode with the auto option or the mode access button. Among them is Live Bokeh for portrait photos and professional with all necessary tools, including the adjustment of exposure time to 4 seconds. Pictures taken with the main camera: >>> View full resolution What photomobile is the Nokia 7 Plus? Photos taken during the day can look really good , especially when they are done in favorable, even lighting conditions. Almost all parameters, such as detail, contrast and color reproduction are at a really good level, allowing Nokia 7 Plus to compete with Nokia 8 or other good smartphone for photos that are available for similar money. But there are elements to which I have to stick – the tonal range is average, and the HDR mode helps only symbolically, focusing mainly on brightening the pictures, rather than drawing additional details from the shadow. In addition, autofocus happens to be confused . When photographing, I recommend holding the phone steadily, as there is no OIS on the equipment, as I have already mentioned. It is the lack of this element that makes the night photos not particularly enchanting. The number of recorded details decreases significantly, but the amount of noise increases considerably . Focusing is also getting worse. It is true that I can not name photos taken after dark tragic, but at this price without any problem we will buy better fotosmartfony (worse in total too). Nokia 7 Plus falls in this aspect simply on average, placing with your night photos somewhere at the level of the Huawei P20 Lite, which is another, expensive average. Pictures taken with a telephoto lens: And how does the telephoto lens work? When it comes to portraits, the Nokia 7 Plus is doing very well, precisely separating the background from the photographed person . The only exception is hair disheveled by the wind, but no smartphone can handle it. Meanwhile, the pictures with a two-fold approach fall well, like on a telephoto lens from the phone. All we need to do is hold the phone to register a properly looking picture, although it is noisy in solid colors. The video base of Nokia 7 Plus is on a good level. We can shoot in both 4K and Full HD, both in 16: 9 and 18: 9 format, but in a maximum of 30 fps. Nokia also added the possibility of streaming clips in real time and bothie, that is, shooting them with two cameras at the same time (the main and the one for selfie), with the division of the screen in half or in picture-in-picture mode. Unfortunately, I caught a cold and I can not record such a material, but I have a movie in 4K … … and a short video showing switching from the main camera to the telephoto lens: The quality of the films is good . All parameters, including liquidity, fully meet expectations . It is a pity that there was a lack of good image stabilization on board because the image is slightly distorted by vibrations. The recorded sound is very good for this, thanks to the OZO Audio technology. The system focuses on the sound source, eliminating background noise. The manufacturer allows you to determine which set of microphones will be used for recording (the one at the front, the one at the back or both at the same time). Selfies, bothie and portraits: We have a self- portrait camera to discuss. It has 16 MP, f / 2.0 light, HDR support also in automatic mode and in addition offers autofocus. Let me put it straight – Nokia 7 Plus is a great tool for self-devising . They are detailed and the colors are subtly curled. I do not know how much it is necessary to have requirements for the front camera of the tested Nokia not to satisfy someone.
I am glad that Nokia is trying to take care of the best equipment of its smartphones. The Nokia 7 Plus offers virtually everything you should expect from a mid-range phone. There is NFC , dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, GPS with AGPS and GLONASS as well as BDS, USB type C 2.0 or 3.5 mm jack connector. I am happy with the work of each of these modules or ports – I did not notice any problems with the location or speed of downloading data when connected to the wireless network. Probably the only thing you can find fault with is an LTE category (only) 6th category, when Snapdragon 660 supports category 12th. Fortunately, this is not a big problem, because Nokia 7 Plus supports band aggregation and theoretically downloads data at 300 Mb / s. The connection to the internet is fast and stable , and the smartphone does not lose any coverage without any reason, which I had the opportunity to test (specifically Play and Plus). The quality of telephone calls does not raise any concerns . This is not the best phone for calls that I was able to use, but the handset is loud enough and the voice of both sides is satisfactory loud and clear. The Nokia 7 Plus supports Dual SIM in standby mode, in a hybrid way – this means that we will not use two numbers if we mount a memory card. Fortunately, you can opt out of it, because the manufacturer has allocated 64 GB of memory for user files ( 48.22 GB is actually available). Whoever wants to use it, can reach for a card with a capacity of up to 256 GB.A multimedia speaker is one and placed on the bottom edge. He plays very well – it's loud enough and you can even hear some bass. Exactly the same I can say about the sound on the headphones. Nokia 7 Plus is not trying to be the best music smartphone on the market and rather will not meet the requirements of people who are looking for such a device. I was moderately satisfied with the timbre and volume , because their level is only good. At the end we have a fingerprint reader. It was placed on the rear panel, at a reasonable distance from the camera, so it is difficult to confuse it with each other. The scanner works quickly and virtually flawlessly, so using it is comfortable , unless one is a strong supporter of the sensor presence on the front.
The battery will satisfy everyone
The components are getting stronger, the screens are growing, and the average battery capacity still varies around 3000 mAh. Few producers try to fight it, according to the officially non-existent principle of "the battery has enough mountain for one day". That's why the Nokia 7 Plus stands out among the average-class students because it received a 3800 mAh cell. Does this mean the phone is a long-distance runner? [wptab style = "4" title = "Normal use"] [test slug = "battery" order = "desc" selected = "22612" virtual = "pcmark-work" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218, 22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" Games "] [slug test =" battery "order =" desc "selected = "22612" virtual = "battery-manhattan-3" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218,22182,22516,22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592"] [/ wptab] [wptab styles = "4" title = "Loading time"] [test slug = "battery" virtual = "loading-ac" order = "asc" selected = "22612" type = "single" product_id = "22412,22218,22182,22516 , 22154,22500,22186,22166,22564,22612,22592 "] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] Initially I was not satisfied with the performance of Nokia 7 Plus. While the time of work on one charge was above average, so the top 4.5 hours of the screen on the mobile network and up to 7 hours on Wi-Fi with the daily charging of the phone is probably a little too little, for such a capacity cell, right? Fortunately, everything has changed the aforementioned update, thanks to which SoT has noticeably increased ( my record is 9 hours on Wi-Fi !), And I downloaded Nokia on an average of every other day. I suspect that the Nokia 7 Plus battery will satisfy even the most demanding users . It should also enjoy support for fast charging, allowing to replenish the missing energy in approximately 110-120 minutes. With this cell capacity this is a very good result.
Summary and evaluation
As soon as I got to know the price of the tested phone, I knew that Nokia 7 Plus would be a solid candidate for the title of "the new king of middle men," just like Huawei Mate 10 Lite a few months ago. The Chinese managed to create a sales hit. Does Nokia 7 Plus have a chance for the same sales success? The Nokia 7 Plus is a great-looking and nice-looking device , and it's pretty good in the palm of your hand, of course, for 6-inch screen equipment. The matrix itself is good in terms of resolution and contrast, however, maximum brightness fails (simply the competition often offers more) and the lack of a well-calibrated image display mode. Whitewash can be improved on your own thanks to the reading mode. Generally, it is a very correct display and will not satisfy only those who count on the ideal. It is amazing to work on one charge . A maximum of 9 hours of work on the screen turned on at WiFi is a really impressive result. Even demanding users may have a problem discharging this device within one business day. Efficiency, speed and smoothness of operations are definitely the strengths of Nokia 7 Plus , but this is after the May update. For the sake of happiness only the fast UFS memory is missing, although the eMMC chips used are not very slow. In general, the work culture of Nokia 7 Plus is fully satisfactory and I did not feel any serious discomfort when I switched to this model from my Xiaomi Mi 6, which is after all incredibly fast.A gentle disappointment is the main camera. I can not say that the pictures taken by this phone are poor, on the contrary – in the day they are very good and in the evenings decent , but at this price we will buy much better fotosmartfony, although mainly will be older flagships. Nokia 7 Plus is not better in this respect than the Huawei P10 or Nokia 8 (mainly due to the lack of optical image stabilization), but similarly priced midgets are not remarkably better. I am not very happy with the sound quality on the headphones, because this is only correct. A multimedia speaker is good. A plus is also the rich communication facilities – in this respect, Nokia 7 Plus embarrasses many a competitor . The same can be said about support, because the guarantee of regular and quick updates is a rare phenomenon in the case of average people, and often even flagships.
Is it worth buying Nokia 7 Plus?
In my opinion, Nokia 7 Plus was sensibly priced . It is true that we will buy many older flagships for similar money, but it is worth remembering that this is the price to start. In addition, average rivals often cost more or less the same, and offer noticeably less. The best examples are Samsung Galaxy A6 + or Huawei P20 Lite. Those people who will buy the Nokia 7 Plus will be satisfied with this phone. This is a successful model that has many advantages and relatively few disadvantages, and none of them is disqualifying. Nokia 7 Plus fully deserves the title of "the new King of Middle Ages", and when it still stands, it can be almost unrivaled in its class.
Nokia 7 Plus or Nokia 8? Is Nokia 7 Plus is good enough to be chosen instead of Nokia 8. The answer to this question is not easy for me. If you are looking for a screen with narrow frames and above average battery life, this one should choose Nokia 7 Plus. In another case, I am pointing to the favorite in Nokia 8, but I think that the choice of Nokia 7 Plus will not be a bad decision . for the x-kom store .For renting a smartphone for testing, thank you
