During this year's Barcelona fair, Qualcomm announced a new series of SoC chips for smartphones of the upper middle class. Unfortunately, at the MWC, the American giant did not mention anything more about the upcoming SoC, which is why the leak that reveals the parameters of two SoCs – Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 730 – makes me happy. The new SoC circuits between the 600 series and the flagship 800 series will be equipped with an octa-core processor, in which six cores are to provide a compromise between performance and energy consumption, and the two to offer typically high performance. Interestingly, Snapdragon 730 will be produced in the 8-nanometer lithographic LPP process , which means the use of the latest technology by Samsung, in the case of mobile systems, as so far the flagship units are manufactured in 10 nm.
Snapdragon 710 will be equipped with two main cores built on the Kryo 3xx architecture with a clock frequency of up to 2.2 GHz and six based on the Kryo 3xx architecture , whose clock speed can reach up to 1.7 GHz. The systems use technology that provides intelligent switching between them – auxiliary cores are activated for more advanced tasks, while main cores are reserved to use the basic functions of the phone, still offering high performance in operation with reduced energy consumption. Thanks to the use of technology, the latest unit will be manufactured in a 10-nanometer process and will offer a 30 percent increase in the context of energy saving compared to the previous generation, as well as support for displays with a resolution of 3040 x 1440 pixels. The processor supports recording of video sequences in 4K UHD resolution at 60 frames per second. Graphical performance is to be ensured by Adreno 615 with a maximum clock frequency of up to 750 MHz. It is worth adding that Snapdragon 710 is to cooperate with LPDDR4X RAM memory and support eMMC and UFS 2.1 memory, as well as cameras with a resolution of up to 32 MP. Of course, there will be integrated Bluetooth 5.0 and dual band 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 is the first in the assortment and in the world SoC system to be produced in the 8nm lithographic process . Another novelty in this SoC system is the core architecture, because they are based on Kryo 4xx. Snapdragon 730 will be equipped with two additional cores based on the Kryo 4xx architecture with clock speeds up to 2.3GHz, as well as six basic clock speeds of 1.8 GHz. The Adreno 615 integrated graphics chip with a clock speed of 750 MHz will be responsible for the graphics. As for the remaining characteristics of the upcoming Snapdragon 730, it is the same as in the case of the SD710 .
What else is worth knowing?
