The premiere of Android P in a few months – probably in August 2018. The biggest new feature is to be gesture support instead of Android function buttons. Why is it a great alternative that should have come a long time ago?
Years are flying, and the main way to interact with Android is still the function buttons – be it on the bottom bar or displayed on the screen. Until now I have treated them as a necessary evil, but after switching to the Huawei P10 there is no doubt that gestures are a much better idea – even as basic as those from EMUI. Especially in the context of increasingly decreasing frames around the screen, which do not allow the implementation of physical keys on the bottom bar. It would be time for the triangle, circle and square to leave the well-deserved retirement . I will not cry for you.
The Android function buttons will go away
I had the opportunity to spend a few days with a BlackBerry smartphone with the BB 10 system. It was the first successful experiment of this manufacturer with software adapted to the touch screen. The basis of the system was gestures . They were quite intuitive, and after a few days of using such a device they entered the habit and everything took place without thinking. Active frames were the key here – a solution that currently has no reason to exist. After all, in a few years the frames will not be at all anymore. Of all the things that I do not like about the iPhone X, there is definitely no gesture support. Apple approached the matter in an innovative way and since they have already got rid of the Home button, instead of a virtual one, it has focused on innovation. In this way, the main way to navigate the system are gestures. In my opinion, they are good, but you can do better. Here we come to the news, which will be debuted along with the next compilation of Android – the P version .
Smartphones with Android are handled by gestures
If you look closely at the screenshot below, you will see that the bottom beam has been completely redesigned. Instead of the well-known three symbols at the bottom of the display there are only two. In my opinion, it is still two too many, because it is not difficult to remember them, and they occupy a lot of workspace. Look down on your Android smartphone – after all, this shirtmaker reduces the screen by at least 0.2 inches diagonal. And you can get rid of it completely. I hope that in the final version of the new system I will not see it at all. What do you think about the new way to navigate Android ? Better to stick to obsolete buttons that take up space on the screen, or maybe put on a much more modern and better gesture control? My opinion is simple – down with buttons.
When will Android P debut?
Usually, the new Android compilation appeared around August – Oreo made his debut after mid-month, 21. So I think we can safely assume that Android P will debut at the same time. And to think that my flagship is still waiting for Oreo, which I had to get in January … Before that, we'll know what it's going to be called. This will happen during the Google I / O conference, which is scheduled for May 8-11. In three weeks, we will already know what to expect. For sure, we will not find out when our smartphones will be updated – the first models in the queue are of course Mountain View – for example, Google Pixel 2 XL. Immediately after removing from the box, the system will also go to Pixel 3. Source: AndroidCentral
