Huawei P20 Lite or Huawei P10? Which one to choose: expensive average or cheap flagship? Which one has a better camera, runs longer on the battery and is more efficient? I will answer these questions by comparing Huawei P20 Lite and Huawei P10.
Huawei P10 is still a very good choice for me in 2018. It so happened that at a similar price you can also buy a new medium – Huawei P20 Lite. I use the first one on a daily basis and the second one I have tested recently. So I can compare both models and answer the question which one is worth buying for about 1600-1700 PLN . Let's start by comparing the specifications.

Casing made of glass or aluminum?
For me, the answer to this question is very simple – that's why I own P10 myself. Aluminum, which was used to make the flagship from 2017, greatly endured the test of time. After half a year on the housing I have only one rubbing in the corner, although I am not able to recall how it was created. P10 is quite a compact smartphone at the same time , and its handling with just one hand does not cause me problems. The same can be said for the Huawei P20 Lite. Just like the top model, it's great in the hand, and with a 19: 9 aspect ratio I had no problem with reaching the opposite corner with my thumb. In my eyes, however , it has a disadvantage, which are glass backs . I am sure that after a few weeks, the first scratches will appear on them. The camera protrudes from the body, which makes the smartphone located on the table wobble during use. At the end, the question of the fingerprint reader remains. I have been saying for a long time that the front is a much better location for the scanner. The P20 Lite is on his back. It's a personal matter that you will find more convenient solution. Both readers operate in a fraction of a second and unblocking is always trouble-free. In a clash of quality and materials used, my voice goes to the flagship Huawei P10 . This smartphone will last longer with a nice look that it has right out of the box. It is harder to scratch it, and aluminum backs can not break.
The screen is an advantage of both devices
Although at the first glance you can see the difference between the two devices, their screens are of very similar quality. Huawei P20 Lite offers a 5.8-inch FullHD + display at a 19: 9 aspect ratio. At the top there is a notch that was created to fit the light sensor and the front camera. From my measurements, it appears that it reproduces the colors very well. It is also bright enough to keep all content visible in the full sun.Huawei P10 delivers more "conservative" usage experiences. This is a 5.1-inch IPS LCD sensor . The image is also presented in FullHD resolution, but the sharpness is better due to the smaller size. In contrast to the new model, there is no programmable capability to lower the resolution here. It is a pity, because HD is enough for me, but at the same time I care less about the battery. There is a tie in the screen category , and the final choice depends only on your preferences. The quality of the displays is similar, and the biggest difference remains the size. If you value a large work surface, put on P20 Lite. I can not fail to mention the oleophobic coating – the one in P10 is very bad (if any at all), which leaves a lot of fingerprints on the glass.
EMUI system and overlay
An unquestionable advantage of Huawei P20 Lite is the current version of the software. Already out of the box, the smartphone works on Android 8.0 Oreo with the EMUI 8.0 overlay. Huawei P10 in the year after its premiere still has not received an update to Oreo – on board you will find Android Nougat. In my opinion, this is unacceptable, although the flagship theoretically should be supported a bit longer. The situation saves some current security patches. Despite the differences in the system version, both smartphones work very similarly. The difference in everyday work is virtually imperceptible. EMUI is a well-thought-out, nice cover with a flat structure (although the drawer can be manually installed). I do not see any special differences in its appearance in the new version with P20 Lite. Certainly they are "under the hood", but that could be stated only when P10 was given Android Oreo. Theoretically, I should get it a few weeks ago – I am still waiting. So when it comes to the system and overlay, the point goes to the Huawei P20 Lite . A newer system straight from the box is an argument for which you can consider buying it instead of P10. The situation will be even when the flagship is updated.
Labor productivity and culture
This is where the biggest difference between smartphones is compared. Huawei P10 is a flagship and as such works on a much more powerful Kirin 960 processor. In Huawei P20 Lite we find Kirin 659 . This is a good SoC, which provides good performance every day, but on the other hand we can find it for example in Huawei P Smart for less than 1000 zlotys … Both smartphones have 4 GB of RAM, but in everyday work you can see the difference. P10 has longer applications running in the background , it turns on applications faster and it rarely cuts animation. However, this can only be seen when both devices are next to each other. If you are not a demanding user, the performance of the P20 Lite will be enough for you. [test slug = "pcmark-android" order = "desc" selected = "22592" virtual = "pcmark-android-work" type = "single" product_id = "22592,22254"] [test slug = "3dmark" order = "desc" selected = "22592" virtual = "3dmark-ice-storm-unlimited-total" type = "single" product_id = "22592,22254"] [test slug = "gfxbench-fps" order = "desc" selected = "22592" type = "single" virtual = "t-rex-3-onscreen" product_id = "22592,22254"] The difference is obvious in games – P10 is much better in this respect . You can not see the animation cuts, even after prolonged use. The smartphone also did not slow down a little since the purchase – for half a year, I did not restore the factory settings to it once. Both smartphones like to warm up when playing – it's not uncomfortable, but it's worth noting.
Battery and working time
Although the Huawei P10 has a larger battery and a smaller screen, in practice the working time in both cases is very similar. The blame bears a much more efficient processor here. Such is the charm of the flagship. In turn, the P20 Lite has more energy-efficient components, but the battery (smaller) has been charged with a larger screen. As a result, both Huawei P10 and Huawei P20 Lite are able to provide a full day of work on a single charge . Of course, only if you are not a user who uses the smartphone on a daily basis very intensively. I am like this and wheel 16 and so I have to hook it to the charger. In the case of the P20 Lite, the situation saves the mode of a lower screen resolution, which when set to HD + gives at least one additional working day.
Which camera is better?
There are no surprises here. During the day both models are able to make a good-looking picture. However, if we start using additional modes, such as blurring the background, the flagship's advantage is much more pronounced. All photos were taken in automatic mode – as most users do. The further into the forest, the darker. And the darker, the more Huawei P10 shows its superiority . Pictures are brighter, colors are better rendered. When it comes to photography, Huawei P20 Lite loses in every field. It is his biggest disadvantage, considering the price. For more photos, see the Huawei P20 Lite and the Huawei P10 review.
Which smartphone should I choose for 1600 PLN?
Concluding our deliberations, let's go to the summary. It will lead us to the answer to the question whether it is worth buying one of these smartphones, with a pocket size of PLN 1600. Huawei P20 Lite is a great medium, which really appealed to me. Nice design, face recognition and smooth work are its advantages. The thing is, the Huawei P10 is the flagship. It has a tremendously better camera and lasts longer on the battery. And in spite of everything, now I would choose Huawei P10 again . What about the competition to show? If we look among last year's flagships, we will find LG G6, for example. He also offers a goalless design (devoid of notch). It is more efficient than the P20 Lite and also has a better camera. One can not fail to mention water resistance – and that's all for 1600 zlotys . This last feature smoothly moves us to the next proposal. Samsung Galaxy S7 has recently stood and now costs 1600 zlotys. It might seem like a lot for a two-year-old flagship, but it really does not have to be ashamed of newer models. It's still a fantastic camera – it's worth buying it for just that. In my opinion, the best choice in the price of about 1600 zlotys is Huawei P10. I own it myself and I know that it was a good choice. It is better to choose him instead of the new average man. Huawei P20 Lite I can recommend – a good smartphone that has a lot to offer. But he will have more, if he will.
