In the near future, we may be able to log in to selected websites by putting a finger to the fingerprint reader or scanning Face ID face. Are you happy?
A new web standard can bring a revolution
The new standard, which may soon be in the mass field of application, will allow the use of biometric security to unlock websites. I am talking here about logging in to the user's account by putting a finger to the fingerprint reader on the smartphone or scanning the face using Face ID. The API for such a solution is now known as WebAuthn. Officially, it was recommended to implement such a solution. They are already supported by the Firefox browser, and in the coming months, it will also receive Chrome and Edge support. At the moment there are no references to the use of the discussed solution in Safari, but … taking into account that Touch ID and Face ID is in iPhones, iPads and MacBooks, the implementation of WebAuthn support is already decided. Time, however, will show when it will happen.
Are we tired of typing passwords?
It seems to me that many people have difficulty remembering a few passwords. Even if they are simple, they do not seem to be so difficult. The average user uses one, very simple password that he passes everywhere where he has to "must". So he goes along the smallest line of resistance. Every year, we receive reports about passwords that are still on the top, and which by their complexity do not exceed the simple alphabet. For such people, the use of Touch ID and Face ID is simply a salvation . In a simple and accessible way, they will be able to increase the security of access to accounts without the need for additional effort. Nevertheless, for people who use a variety of different and strong passwords, this may not be a satisfactory solution right now . And certainly for opponents of using biometric security. Time will show how quickly the new standard will be adopted. The fact that this will happen is, in my opinion, rather a foregone conclusion. Source: Engadget , own study
