It is no secret that some Chinese manufacturers set the direction of technology development in smartphones. One of them is Vivo, who is trying to popularize the fingerprint reader under the screen. He also adds to the current trends – facial recognition, artificial intelligence, as well as notch. And all in one smartphone – Vivo X21 UD.
His debut was Vivo X21 , the first in the Chinese manufacturer's offer smartphone with a notch in the screen, and another with a fingerprint reader placed under the display. It is evident that Vioo wants to popularize a solution that other manufacturers are still afraid of.
The fingerprint reader in the screen is the future
Vivo as the first manufacturer in the world decided to use a fingerprint reader placed under the display of the Vivo X20 Plus UD. The Synaptics reader is located between the touch layer and the screen and supports Pixel RGB technology – it was developed for OLED screens. However, the pioneering solution had two major disadvantages – a designated place where the finger should have been touched, and a significantly longer reaction time, compared to traditional readers – 0.6 to 0.7 seconds vs. even 0.1 seconds. Vivo, however, saw the limitations of existing technology and in a very short time found a brilliant solution, which is another step forward in the use of biometric sensors under the display . The surface has been enlarged with a biometric sensor, which currently occupies the entire lower half of the screen (Half-Screen Fingerprint Scanning). Earlier, this type of reader was shown in Barcelona on the Vivo APEX model, which is to wait for mass production. https://www.gsmmaniak.pl/817050/vivo-apex-oficjalnie/ The solution used in Vivo APEX has now been used in the production of one of the Vivo X21 variants – it is a special edition, which has no specific name, although you can find on the Internet several terms – Screen Fingerprint, or Under Display. It is possible that the smartphone is simply called Vivo X21 UD, just like the Vivo X20 Plus UD. Unfortunately, the Google translator does not help much in decrypting the name from the Chinese language. 🙂 And although we still do not deal with the perfect solution, as Damian also mentioned, it is, as I wrote earlier, a progress that will probably evolve in the near future and this time it will offer the possibility of unlocking by pressing your finger anywhere on the screen. In the near future, there are a few more smartphones from the Middle Kingdom to debut in which a fingerprint reader will be placed in the screen. It is a pity that no large manufacturer, like Samsung, LG or HTC, has decided on this solution. I deliberately did not mention Huawei and Xiaomi, because in these companies hope. According to rumors, on March 27 this year, two new smartphones with the technology described may be shown. One of them is to be the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, the subject of which reports change at the speed of light. The second of the new features is the Huawei P20 Porsche Design, which is to be a refined version of the P20 Pro. Thus, it will keep three cameras on the back panel, though they will be arranged differently. The novelty is to be a fingerprint embedded in the display.
Facial recognition is also gaining popularity
Another feature that secures the latest Vivo smartphones is face recognition, which was named by the manufacturer Face Wake. Face Wake uses an infrared camera and a Selfie camera to recognize the face that has been scanned previously . The technology developed by Vivo analyzes 1024 invisible points on the face, creating a precise depth map. This is really a small number, whereas Face ID from the iPhone X analyzes over 30,000 such points. A kind of infrared illuminator was also used, which is designed to identify the face even in the dark. Everything indicates, therefore, that Vivo has begun work on the development of another security , which is going to be used in smartphones with Android. I really appreciate Face Unlock, especially in the performance of OnePlus, because it is brilliant and reliable. This security is so fast that I did not even have the opportunity to see notifications on the lock screen. In addition, it works in all lighting conditions – even in the "Egyptian" darkness.
A screen with an indent in the screen is a transitory trend, but it is mandatory at this moment
Indentation in the screen is the next stage in getting rid of frames in smartphones, and thus the use of even larger displays in smaller housings. And although the title of the first smartphone with an indentation in the screen falls on Essential Phone, this trend was widespread only after the presentation of the iPhone X. -fragment of the text: Meet the most important trend in consumer electronics in 2018
That is why Vivo, being unable to remain indifferent to the current trends, set the display indented . The display, which in the Vivo X21 and Vivo X21 UD has a diagonal of 6.28 ", a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 19: 9. The screens have been made in OLED technology (Super AMOLED) and therefore recognized by many as one of the best. Unfortunately, we have no information who delivered the panels, but regardless of the producer, they should have infinite contrast, as well as deep black and luscious colors. All indications are that there was no support for HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology for content in Dolby Vision or HDR10 formats.
There was also artificial intelligence
Jovi AI is an assistant working on a similar principle to the HTC Sense Companion. However, it has been improved in relation to the Taiwanese solution, because it is able to manage components to ensure optimal performance, regardless of the tasks performed. When there is a need (requiring a game), the performance of the graphics system is increased, as is the increase in the clock speed of the processor cores. Of course, there is no overclocking here, because Jovi AI uses only the available computing power of the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 system. Jovi AI learns the user's habits to release RAM resources in a timely manner and quickly restore even the most demanding application without having to re-use it startup. In addition, the assistant suggests what should be done to use the smartphone more efficiently and save time . It is also able to recommend a restaurant, suggest the shortest route, advise on what clothing to wear based on current weather, or aggregate content to find the information you need faster. An interesting function of the assistant is also the car mode, which activates automatically after pairing the smartphone with the BT device. In this mode incoming calls are displayed in floating directions when the user uses navigation. Lisa Jovi AI's possibilities are much longer, but I think that the most important ones I presented to you.

It is worth checking how much you have to pay for the new Vivo products
Vivo smartphones have never been the cheapest, so it is no different in the case of the Vivo X21, although the prices seem to be adequate to the possibilities offered. For the standard Vivo X21 model, the interested parties will pay 3198 yuan, which, after conversion and addition of VAT, gives us an amount of almost PLN 2130. A model with a fingerprint reader screen, however, costs 3598 yuan (~ 2395 PLN). The sale will also be Vivo X21 64Gb built-in memory, and its cost is 2898 yuan (~ 1927 PLN). All variants are available in three color versions – white, red and black. The sale starts on March 24 this year. Vivo X21 UD will be available from March 28, 2018.
