The performance of Huawei mid-range smartphones has been in place for two years. The producer is still unable to decide on the implementation of the new generation of Kirin. Fortunately, this will soon change, with the debut of the Kirin 670 processor. The new report reveals the technical specification of this unit.
Until a few years ago, the Kirin systems from Huawei did not impress with their capabilities and performance. All you need to do is mention the Kirin 930 processor from the Huawei P8, which in the direct clash did not have any chance with the flagship units of the competition. A real breakthrough came in 2016, when the Chinese manufacturer developed Kirin 950 (Huawei P9) for flagships and Kirin 650 (Huawei P9 Lite) for medium-sized people. Since then, the flagship layouts of the company have been regularly making good progress, but the average ones are practically standing still .
Kirin 65x eternally alive
The Kirin 650, built in 16nm and composed of eight Cortex-A53 cores and a Mali-T830MP2 graphics chip, worked great two years ago when it powered the Huawei P9 Lite. Since then, the manufacturer has not made any noticeable progress, at most gently overclocking the clock speed of the CPU cores. See for yourself how little has it changed: [wptab style = "4" title = "GeekBench Single"] [test slug = "geekbench-4" order = "desc" selected = "22414" virtual = "geekbench-4-Single- Core "type =" single "product_id =" 21718,22214,22294,22468 "] [/ wptab] [wptab style =" 4 "title =" GeekBench Multi "] [test slug =" geekbench-4 "order =" desc "selected =" 22414 "virtual =" geekbench-4-Multi-Core "type =" single "product_id =" 21718,22214,22294,22468 "] [/ wptab] [wptab_end] The table shows the comparison of processor performance of four Huawei mediums with the last two years. Kirin 650 with Huawei P9 Lite, Kirin 655 with Huawei P9 Lite 2017, Kirin 658 with Huawei P10 Lite and Kirin 659 with Huawei Mate 10 Lite are characterized by almost identical performance. The difference between them is negligible. Progress will not bring even the Huawei P20 Lite, which is to get Kirin 659. Fortunately, the Kirin 670 is approaching.
What will be Kirin 670?
The Kirin 670 is supposed to be the system that will bring a real breath of fresh air to the Huawei mediums. A new report on his case indicates that his partial technical specification is to look like this:
- technological process: 12nm,
- CPU: 2xCortex-A72 clocked at ~ 2 GHz + 4xCortex-A53 with unknown clock speed,
- GPU: Mali G72 MP4,
- additional information: dedicated NPU system for tasks related to artificial intelligence.
Of course, it is difficult to talk about a huge revolution here, because such units as Snapdragon 636 or Snapdragon 660 will run out a little, but the Kirin 670 equipped in this way would effectively compete with, for example, Exynos 7885 from Galaxy A8 (2018), losing the CPU's performance, but making up for it GPU. Compared to the Kirin 65x, the new unit would mean a significant improvement in performance .
When will the Kirin 670 go to smartphones?
So far, we have no official confirmation that Kirin 670 exists, but unofficial rumors and leaks have already mentioned it many times. He appeared on the list of smartphones that Huawei will show in 2018. The suggestion is that for the first time, Kirin will appear on the Huawei Nova 2 Lite, which may debut later this month . In this situation, I wonder why the Kirin 670 will not enter the Huawei P20 Lite. Could the manufacturer have produced so many systems from the Kirin 659 that they still have to get rid of them in new phones? Source: MyDrivers
