iOS 11.2.2 was to protect iPhone users from Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities. Bonusowo slows down some smartphones by up to half.
iOS 11.2.2 is a small update of the Apple system that the company released earlier this week. It was important because it protected smartphones from detected vulnerabilities, called Specter and Meltdown. The problem concerns processors and various devices, not just iPhones. Earlier, there were voices that security updates issued by software producers could slow down computers. Microsoft himself admitted a few days ago that the older we have a processor and installed Windows, the more we will feel a decrease in performance. https://www.gsmmaniak.pl/794384/iphone-ios-spectre-meltdown-obawy/ It turns out that the same situation applies to iPhones. iPhone 6 debuted in 2014 – it is no longer the latest smartphone. Until now, this has not meant that it is significantly worse. Now this can change, all thanks to the update of iOS 11.2.2, which slows down the performance of this smartphone by almost half! Melvin Mughal conducted performance tests on the iPhone 6 before and after the iOS update to the latest version. The benchmarking shows that on a single core, performance decreased by 41% after installing iOS 11.2.2. The decline in many cores amounted to 39%.Melvin explains that in every field, the update reduces the performance of the "six". He adds that iOS 11.2.2 is a "necessary evil" because the performance of the device can not be preferred over security. Mughal suggests that such a large drop may take place due to Apple's previous mechanism of slowing down older iPhones with a used battery. He notes that the smartphone did not have a replacement battery, it was not modified in any way, it is not a refurbished model, and when running the test – there were no applications in the background. Personally, I would wait for other users to test again. I am curious how the situation on newer iPhones looks like and whether it is significantly perceptible by users. After upgrading my iPhone 6S did not slow down, at least I did not feel any difference. Source: melv1n
