Next big thing? Probably will be folded iPhone. It turns out that Apple has just started working on such a device. At the moment, it's about displays, but it's already known that Samsung Display will not handle them.
It is unlikely that next year's iPhone will be folded. Rather it will be a continuation of the design launched by the iPhone X. Meanwhile, Apple is already running into the future and thinking about what will be in a few years. It is then that the folding device will be rather normal. We know that Samsung's first smartphone to be assembled was the Galaxy X. We do not know if it's coming with that name or when it's coming out, but we can be sure the waiting time for this model has been significantly shortened. All the haste that could be felt in Korean decisions, as you read in the article below. New reports indicate that Apple has started work on a folding iPhone in collaboration with LG Display , not Samsung Display, as we would expect. This year Samsung is the only supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone X. Why LG, not Samsung? Of course we can not talk about official positions here, but probably fearing possible leakage of information that Samsung could use. LG Display was to create a task force to design a foldable OLED display for the new iPhone. LG Innotek has assembled a team to design a flexible module board, better known as the RF PCB.Anonymous sources indicate that production of panels would start in 2020 . It follows that Apple certainly would not like to be the first to market with such novelty. It is also possible that Apple will invest in a new LG factory to enhance OLED panels for future years. So far, the two companies have started to cooperate in this area, but the details will still be in place. Next year, OLED displays for the iPhone will continue to be provided only by Samsung, although Apple is actively looking for ways to diversify the suppliers of this component. In the next few years LG will probably be the only one. Source: The Investor
