The Snapdragon 660 is powered by powerful mid-range, and the Snapdragon 630 is not the predecessor's predecessor – the Snapdragon 625. Qualcomm is planning a new Snapdragon 635 processor. It will be energy efficient and equipped with powerful Kryo cores.

Which processor in the smartphone to choose?

I'm going to use this introduction to add that entry to the new units that have appeared on smartphones since. I will start with the super-average, so from Snapdragon 660 – this processor is powered, for example, recently presented Xiaomi Mi Note 3.

We are already approaching the main character for this post, but for that we need to bring one processor and approximate the silhouettes of the other two. Of course, the recruitment is growing to one of the most commonly mentioned units in the industry – Snapdragon 625 . I've already praised this processor a few times and am not alone in this.

Snapdragon 626 – energy efficient successor

This processor has two successors. The first is the Snapdragon 626, for example, in our recently-released Motorola Moto Z2 Play. He clearly showed that this is only a slightly modified version of the predecessor, but still provides excellent power management.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 – Modified performance

Qualcomm-Snapdragon-630-specs-768x432 Snapdragon 630 is a minor modification again – a performance difference of just 10% . The technological process is still 14 nm. This processor will power, for example, ASUS Zenfone 4. To be able to name the above list even though the mini-guide, I will briefly summarize it. If you care about performance , then Snapdragon 660 will provide it for you in the next few years. If battery life is a priority, select from the Snapdragon 625/626 or 630 models described – as you know from my previous entries, I am a strong advocate of slowing performance gains for less power. If you can still hold back, then wait for the news.

How effective will Snapdragon 635 be?

So it will be efficient – of course not like the Snapdragon 660. However, it will reduce the performance gap between the 6xx series. The big difference comes from the kind of cores used – in the lower models it's eight Cortex-A53 cores. Snapdragon 660 is already 8 high-performance Kryo 260 cores. And so is the Snapdragon 635 – that's efficient. This will be an eight-core unit composed of Kryo cores operating in the big.LITTE system. GPUs, which are important for smartphone users as gaming consoles, will be 20% more efficient than the 625 model.

Will the Snapdragon 635 be as energy efficient as the Snapdragon 625?

The worse news is the technological process – 14 nm. This is not a bad result, it's more about Qualcomm already having enough advanced technology to get down to 10 nm , like Snapdragon 670 or 835 flagship. Also included is the Kryo 360 core. The performance will be sporadic, it will suffer from this power management – the Kryo 260 core will certainly be lower clocked than the Snapdragon 660, but I do not believe the smartphones in it are running away from the socket as well as those based on the older and weaker predecessor .
