If you are still using a Windows Phone 8.1 powered smartphone, you should be aware that this version of the system will no longer be supported from tomorrow. What are the implications?

According to information on the official Microsoft website, the company will end support for Windows Phone 8.1 tomorrow 11.07.2017. As a reminder, it is worth mentioning that the minimum three-year support cycle began on June 24, 2014. Some users of smartphones powered by Windows Phone 8.1 have been able to upgrade their handsets to Windows 10 Mobile in the last 16 months. There is also a long awaited upgrade to Windows Mobile Creators Update, but in this case the device list was not long. One can even say that it has become a great disappointment for many . According to AdDuplex statistics, nearly 74% of smartphones powered by the Redmond giant have devices with Windows Phone 8.1 installed. For comparison, just over 20% of users use Windows 10 Mobile. Given this information, Microsoft can extend support for Windows Phone 8.1. If this is not the case, a significant portion of users will remain unprotected in terms of security or availability of new features for that system. For now, there is no official information in this regard, so it is better to abstain from the expectations of Microsoft. The company currently has a major problem with the mobile division, which does not bring significant revenue. The company, however, plans to enter the market again with new ideas, but when it happens – it is still unknown. Source: Microsoft , AdDuplex
