The lower number of active SIM cards in the market has translated into a decrease in the number of SMSs sent . In 2016, Poles sent 50.2 billion text messages, compared to 51.9 billion in 2015. The reason for less interest in text messaging is the growing competition in the communications market such as instant messaging, social networking, email and more. Sent via the Internet.

According to the UKE report , the total number of roaming SMS messages is systematically increasing . Subscribers to Polish networks using foreign operators have sent 639 million SMS messages in 2016, 6.5% more than in the previous year. The increase in the number of messages sent is likely to be affected by the lower cost of using roaming telecommunications services.

The growing popularity of social media based messengers does not bother the development of the MMS market. Sending multimedia messages is gaining popularity every year , mainly because of frequent inclusion by operators in the package of services not included in the fixed monthly fee. In 2016, subscribers posted 1.039 billion messages, up 40.6% from a year earlier. The statistical Pole in 2016 sent 27 MMS messages to 19 messages a year earlier. The decline in the number of text messages sent is one of the reasons for several years of declining operator revenue . This trend was also confirmed in 2016. Operators achieved a total revenue of PLN16.7bn, ie 2.7% lower than a year earlier. The full content of the UKE report will be found here . Source: press information.
