OnePlus 5 is touted as the flagship of the OnePlus Chinese company with twice the zoom. However, there is no mention of optical zoom. In fact – the latter is smaller.
I could bet that much of the less sophisticated smartphone users are not paying attention to whether their device is optical or just digital. Moreover, not all could well determine what they differ. For others, every detail is of gold. Among other things, Carl Pei, the CEO of the company, has decided to explain what Twitter is about in the new OnePlus 5 flag. It turns out that marketing the capabilities of the OnePlus 5 can bring those users into confusion. The company claims that its latest flagship offers twice the lossless zoom. This is not the same as the double optical zoom that most people think. In fact, OnePlus 5 boasts only a 1.6x optical zoom . The missing 0.4x is generated by SmartCapture technology, although this does not affect the quality of images.
Optical zoom is at 1.6x, the remaining 0.4x is realized through SmartCapture multiframe technology.

As you can see on the example of OnePlus 5 – "the devil is in the details" . And although the smartphone specification clearly says twice the zoom, it's not mentioned anywhere that it's an optical zoom. For most OnePlus users, this will not matter, but for enthusiastic enthusiasts and photo professionals the more so. Source: Twitter
