We compare two cheap Xiaomi smartphones: Redmi 4 Pro (Prime) and Redmi 4A (32GB). Which phone better buy?
We recently had the opportunity to test both Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro and Xiaomi Redmi 4A. Both smartphones cost less than 1000 zlotys, but only the second one is available in the official Polish distribution. Is it worth taking a risk and buying Redmi 4 Pro in a Chinese shop (eg in Gearbest ) or from intermediaries? Or maybe the game is not worth the candle and better buy the more secure Redmi 4A (our copy came from x-kom shop )? I decided to find an answer to these questions.
Housing and appearance
Under the concept of Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro is a phone with a slightly higher shelf than Redmi 4A, which is very good compared to the materials used. As the first model puts on a classic combination of glass and metal, so the second model is made mostly of plastic. The Redmi 4A is also protected by inferior glass, which is thin, prone to pressure and feels plastic. The difference in the materials used speaks to the plus of the Redmi 4 Pro, but the Redmi 4A has a few counter arguments – it is much lighter than the rival, and in addition better deal with dirt. The scratch resistance is similar, ie average – with a slight indication on the metal Redmi 4 Pro. 22232,22228 [/ spec] The look of the smartphones they compare is a must-have, but it's not to be overlooked that the two models do not bring a touch of originality. To the market – but it is difficult to demand from devices of this price class. Unfortunately, the good development of space is not the domain of any device, although the phones are protected by the presence of Android function keys under the screen (in both cases they are not highlighted). I will add that Redmi 4 Pro offers a biometric sensor, and Redmi 4A does not. Because of similar size, it's hard for me to pinpoint which model is better in the palm of my hand. It will depend on habits, for eg for me the weight of the Redmi 4 Pro is not a problem.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro and Redmi 4A are smartphones designed for those who are not fans of the pan and primarily focus on comfortable operation of the device with one hand. In both cases the manufacturer opted for a 5-inch IPS matrix .Color mapping is not a strong side to any of the compared devices, but I do not see the reason for complaining – the parameters are simply acceptable. I will add that the leader is Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro , because its matrix is more contrast, clearly brighter and presents content in higher resolution. Fonts, edges, or bends are smoother, so it is less likely to need to zoom in on anything. In summary : Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro is definitely better than Xiaomi Redmi 4A.
Both phones work on Qualcomm processors, but they are not the same class. The Redmi 4A comes with a basic Snapdragon 425 , and the Redmi 4 Pro in Snapdragona 625 . Both systems combine only one, or core architecture. The SD625 (8 cores vs 4, higher clocking, more powerful GPU), which is a good example of benchmarking, is the advantage of the SD625: [test slug = "pcmark-android" order = "desc" selected = "22154,20394" virtual = " Product_id = "22232,22228"] [test slug = "android-antutu-6" order = "desc" selected = "22154" virtual = "antutu-total-6" = "Single" product_id = "22232,22228"] [test slug = "3dmark" order = "desc" selected = "22154" virtual = "3dmark 22232,22228 "] [test slug =" gfxbench-fps "order =" desc "selected =" 22154 "type =" single "virtual =" t-rex AnTuTu benchmark, Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro is better by almost 26 thousand. Points, and in 3DMark by over 50%. Significant results are in the T-Rex test, which tests the power of the graphics. Even with a much lower screen resolution, the Redmi 4A loses to its competitor and that's it. All these results translate into practice, because Redmi 4 Pro opens applications faster and generally works briskly . Games also perform better because most titles are not challenging when the opponent sometimes has problems with mid-level titles. Redmi 4 Pro also has another advantage over cousin – an extra gigabyte of RAM , allowing more programs to run in the background. In the case of Redmi 4A you see that 2 GB of RAM is a bit too little for MIUI to work comfortably with several applications at once.
4100 mAh vs 3120 mAh – cell capacity says that Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro lasts for a single charge than Xiaomi Redmi 4A. Of course, this is just a theory, and this is not always reflected in reality. However, this is not the case here: [test slug = "battery" order = "desc" selected = "22154" virtual = "pcmark-work-2" type = "single" product_id = "22232,22228"] [test slug = Each benchmark shows the advantage of Redmi 4 Pro , similar I have also felt using both phones at the same day. Regardless of the scenario, the more expensive smartphone works longer than the Redmi 4A, and the on-screen time is sometimes twice as long. This is due not only to the larger capacity battery, but also to the lower processing life of the processor (14nm vs. 28nm), which reduces the demand for energy due to much higher capacity. For full charge both phones need 2.5 to 3 hours.
13 megapixel main camera with f / 2.2 light and dual illumination and 5 megapixel front camera are Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro photo-studio. Redmi 4A offers a very similar set, but the LED is already a single. In terms of resolution both smartphones are equal – but in terms of quality no longer.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro
Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro manages to take advantage of [CIS_20] Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro Better in every photographic aspect . Autofocus works faster and is more reliable, including macro shots. This reduces the risk of smudging, especially under more difficult lighting conditions or excessive light. In both cases the number of recorded details in the foreground is similar, but the Redmi 4A is less capable of coping with the background. The same can be said about the tonal range and work under the sun. Photo opportunities are the best proof of the different positioning of these phones.
Xiaomi Redmi 4A

Unfortunately, in both cases we are talking only about acceptable, average performance. Exactly the same I can say about selfie photos – is correct and enough. The camera application is the same for both smartphones. In the basic view, we can control the HDR mode and the flash, and also enable filters or switch between the cameras. Additional options are available in modes, among them, among others. Panorama, night or manual mode, but the latter is limited to white balance and ISO sensitivity.
In my opinion the case is obvious – Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro is a smartphone better than the Redmi 4A , in every respect. Each piece of equipment I value above, although not always the advantage of a more expensive model is so obvious. It is worth noting, however, that Redmi 4 Pro is a smartphone higher in hierarchy than Redmi 4A and just was supposed to be better. Where is the idea of such a comparison? As you all know, Xiaomi Redmi 4A can be purchased in the official Polish distribution, for 699 gold in a variant of 32 GB of internal memory. Thanks to that you have a service in Poland, regardless of the shop where you make the purchase, as well as the possibility to check the equipment yourself before buying. You do not have to worry about uploading software because you get a stable, refined and updated OTA MIUI Global software. Meanwhile, the purchase of Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro requires a virtual visit to a Chinese shop or purchase by an intermediary or importer. I realize that not everyone is a fan of this type of shopping, so despite the apparently high prices, Xiaomi's smartphones from ABC Data enjoy quite decent popularity. Is Redmi 4 Pro worth the risk and will you buy yourself a Redmi 4A? Definitely yes . Xiaomi Redmi 4A is a nice smartphone, but Redmi 4 Pro is fantastic and if you are not afraid of shopping outside the official distribution and adding 200 gold is not a problem for you, it is definitely worth a try.
